This weekend, I had the privilege of joining our neighbors in Reidsville for the annual Tattnall County Juneteenth Celebration. It was a wonderful day filled with fellowship, joy, and deep reflection on our shared history.
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to bring the news that the Civil War had ended and that the enslaved were now free. This announcement came two and a half years after President Lincolnβs Emancipation Proclamation. Since that historic day, Juneteenth has stood as a profound symbol of the triumph of the human spirit over oppression, celebrating the hard-won promise of liberty and justice for all.
As we gathered at Reidsville Park, we celebrated not just the history of freedom, but the strong, close-knit spirit that binds our communities today. True stewardship means ensuring that the promise of opportunity is fully realized for every family across District 157.
Thank you to the local organizers, performers, vendors, and sponsors who made this celebration a resounding success. Letβs continue working together in unity to build a community where freedom and opportunity thrive for everyone.
