1. Early Voting vs. Election Day
The primary operational difference between early voting and Election Day is where you are permitted to cast your ballot.
During the advance voting window (October 13 - October 30), registered voters may cast a ballot at any designated advance voting location within their home county. For example, a Tattnall County resident living in Collins or Glennville may vote at the central elections office in Reidsville while in town during the day.
| Feature | Advance Voting (Oct 13 - Oct 30) | Election Day (Tuesday, Nov 3) |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Any designated early voting site in your county | Strictly your assigned home precinct |
| Hours | Regular weekday and scheduled Saturday hours | 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM statewide |
| Out-of-Precinct Rules | Flexible across the county | Must vote at your assigned precinct |
On Election Day (November 3), countywide flexibility ends. Under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-385), you must vote at your specific assigned neighborhood precinct.
Voters who arrive at an incorrect precinct on Election Day before 5:00 PM are directed to their correct home precinct. Early voting provides voters greater scheduling convenience across the three-week period.
2. Weekend Advance Voting Dates and Hours
Georgia election law establishes two mandatory Saturday voting days across every county in the state:
- Saturday, October 17, 2026
- Saturday, October 24, 2026
These weekend dates accommodate commuters, agricultural workers, and shift workers whose daily routines make weekday voting difficult.
While state law requires counties to open on both Saturdays, exact operating hours are established by each individual county Board of Elections (typically 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM). Check your county listing below or visit the Georgia My Voter Page to confirm local weekend hours.
3. Where to Vote Early in District 157
Each of the four counties in District 157 designates a central elections facility for advance in-person voting.

| Evans County | Courthouse Annex (Suite 8) | 201 Freeman Street Claxton, GA 30417 | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM | (912) 739-0708 |
| Jeff Davis County | Public Safety Facility | 15 Public Safety Drive Hazlehurst, GA 31539 | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM | (912) 375-6635 |

[!NOTE] Operating schedules and entrance details are subject to official county determination. Official county election notices and the Georgia My Voter Page take precedence over third-party summaries.
4. Absentee Ballots and Drop Boxes
Georgia voters who choose to vote by mail or drop box operate under statutory rules established by O.C.G.A. § 21-2-381 and Senate Bill 202.
Absentee Application Deadline
Your county elections office must receive your completed absentee ballot application by Friday, October 23, 2026.
Postmark dates do not satisfy this deadline; the application must be physically received by your county board of elections by the close of business.
Drop Box Regulations
Absentee ballot drop boxes are located indoors within county election offices. Under state law, drop boxes are accessible exclusively during active advance in-person voting hours.
When polling closes for the day, drop boxes are locked and secured by election officials.
Switching from Absentee to In-Person Voting
Under O.C.G.A. § 21-2-388, if you requested a mail-in absentee ballot but decide to vote in person, bring your unused paper ballot with you to the early voting location.
Surrender the paper ballot to the poll clerk, who will mark it as canceled in the state database and issue you a standard in-person ballot.
If you do not have the paper ballot with you, poll officials will require you to sign an affidavit affirming that the absentee ballot was not used before issuing an in-person ballot.
5. Accessibility and Voter Assistance
Georgia election law contains specific accommodations to ensure every eligible citizen can cast a ballot safely, privately, and independently.
Priority Line Accommodations During Advance Voting
Under Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-385.1), electors who are 75 years of age or older, electors who have a physical disability, or electors accompanied by a child two years of age or younger are entitled upon request to poll officials to vote without waiting in line during advance in-person voting.
(Note: On Election Day, a similar provision under O.C.G.A. § 21-2-409.1 entitles electors aged 75 or older or those with physical disabilities to vote without waiting in line between 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM).
In-Booth Voter Assistance
Under O.C.G.A. § 21-2-409, any voter who requires assistance due to physical disability or difficulty reading English may receive help from a companion of their choice.
The law specifies that an assistant may not be the voter’s employer, an agent of the employer, or an officer or agent of the voter’s labor union.
Accessible Voting Equipment
Every advance voting site in District 157 is equipped with Georgia’s certified ballot marking devices (BMDs) configured with accessibility features, including audio-tactile keypads, headphones for audio ballots, high-contrast screen modes, large-text magnification, and compatibility with sip-and-puff devices.
6. Acceptable Forms of Photo ID
Georgia law (O.C.G.A. § 21-2-417) requires in-person voters to present government-issued photo identification at check-in.
The six acceptable forms of photo identification are:
- Any valid state or federal government-issued photo ID, including a free Georgia Voter ID card.
- A Georgia driver’s license (even if expired).
- A valid U.S. passport or passport card.
- A valid employee photo ID issued by any branch, department, or agency of the federal government, Georgia, or any Georgia county or municipality.
- A valid U.S. military photo ID.
- A valid tribal photo ID card.
Provisional Ballots
If you arrive at the polling site without an acceptable form of photo identification, election workers are legally required to issue a provisional ballot.
To have the ballot counted, you must present valid photo identification to your county board of registrars within three business days following Election Day.
