Micah King Announces Campaign for Georgia House District 157

I am Micah King, and I am officially announcing my candidacy to represent Georgia House District 157 in the upcoming 2026 election. I am stepping forward to serve because our community, stretching across Tattnall, Jeff Davis, Appling, and Evans counties, deserves representation that truly understands our roots, honors our veterans, and fights fiercely for our working families.

For too long, the critical decisions that impact the daily lives and the economic future of Southeast Georgia have been made by out-of-touch politicians sitting in Atlanta who do not understand the realities of our daily lives. They make sweeping mandates that affect our schools, our hospitals, and our farms without ever setting foot on our soil or listening to the people doing the hard work. I have spent my entire life working on local farms, serving our nation in uniform, and advocating for the local leaders who keep our rural towns running. I know what it means to put in a hard day’s work in Glennville and Reidsville, and I know exactly what our communities need to thrive in the modern economy.

Why I am Running for State House

My decision to run for the Georgia House of Representatives was not made lightly. Over the past several years, as I have traveled across the district speaking with farmers, small business owners, teachers, and first responders, a consistent theme has emerged: Southeast Georgia feels left behind. While urban centers receive massive influxes of state funding for infrastructure, healthcare, and education, our rural counties are forced to do more with less.

Our local hospitals are struggling to keep their doors open due to inadequate state support and burdensome regulations. Our farmers are facing unprecedented input costs, and their margins are being squeezed by both inflation and unfair trade practices. Our young people are graduating from high school and finding that they have to leave the community they love in order to find a well-paying job. This is not the future I want for District 157, and I know it is not the future you want either.

I am not interested in political grandstanding, and I am not running to participate in the partisan bickering that has paralyzed our state legislature. I am interested in showing up, rolling up my sleeves, and doing the work required to deliver tangible results for our district. We are building a grassroots coalition that represents every corner of District 157, from the onion fields of Glennville to the timberlands of Appling County.

Key Priorities of Our Campaign

When I am elected as your State Representative, I will immediately get to work on the issues that matter most to our daily lives. My legislative agenda is built on three core pillars:

1. Supporting Our Farmers and Agricultural Economy

Agriculture is the absolute lifeblood of Southeast Georgia. We are home to the world-famous Vidalia sweet onion, massive timber operations, and robust poultry farming. Protecting our rural heritage means ensuring small-scale agriculture has the resources and the regulatory breathing room to thrive in a global market. I will fight to eliminate the burdensome state-level taxes on essential farming materials, feed, fuel, and equipment. Furthermore, I will aggressively defend our local water rights from external regulations that threaten to stifle our agricultural production. We must also invest in the next generation by fully funding local FFA and 4-H programs, ensuring young Georgians see a viable, profitable path in modern agriculture.

2. Economic Autonomy, Infrastructure, and Jobs

To keep our communities vibrant, we need to lower the structural barriers to entry for local business owners and entrepreneurs. Our state government must stop placing unnecessary red tape on the backs of small businesses. I will advocate for targeted tax relief for working families and small enterprises, keeping more of your hard-earned money right here in the local economy.

Equally important is our infrastructure. We cannot attract new industries or support modern businesses without reliable, high-speed rural broadband. The current “dead zones” across Tattnall and Jeff Davis counties are unacceptable, and I will push the state to aggressively expand broadband access. We must also prioritize funding for the maintenance and expansion of our local roads and bridges, which are essential for transporting our agricultural products to market safely and efficiently.

3. Veteran Advocacy and Rural Healthcare

As a veteran, I know firsthand the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform. When our service members return home, they deserve the absolute best care and support our state can offer. I will champion legislation to provide accessible resources, comprehensive community support networks, and streamlined healthcare systems for those who served.

Beyond veterans, the overall state of rural healthcare in Georgia is at a crisis point. I will fight to keep our local emergency rooms open, support the expansion of telemedicine infrastructure, and work to reform the Certificate of Need laws that prevent new medical facilities from opening in underserved rural areas. Access to quality, affordable healthcare should not depend on your zip code.

This campaign is not about me; it is about us. It is about demanding a seat at the table in Atlanta and ensuring that the voices of Southeast Georgia are never again ignored.
