Georgia House District 157 is a region of immense beauty, deep history, and unparalleled agricultural productivity. Stretching across Evans, Jeff Davis, Tattnall, and parts of Appling counties, this district is the beating heart of Southeast Georgia. From the bustling main streets of Glennville and Reidsville to the quiet timberlands of Baxley, our communities are built on hard work, deep faith, and a commitment to looking out for our neighbors.

Yet, despite all that we contribute to the state’s economy, District 157 has been systematically overlooked by the political establishment in Atlanta.

I am Micah King, and I am running to be your next Representative for Georgia House District 157 in the 2026 General Election. I am running because I believe it is time for a new generation of leadership. We need leadership that understands the unique, pressing challenges of rural Georgia and is willing to fight fiercely for our fair share of state resources.

The Geography and the People of District 157

To understand why I am running, you have to understand the people of Georgia House District 157. Our district is fundamentally rural, which means our economy is anchored by agriculture, local small businesses, and manufacturing.

In Evans and Tattnall counties, we produce the world-famous Vidalia sweet onion, sustaining a robust agricultural economy that feeds the nation. In Jeff Davis and Appling counties, our timber operations and poultry farms provide thousands of jobs and serve as the backbone of our local tax base.

The people here don’t ask for much. They want a safe place to raise their children, quality local schools, accessible healthcare when they get sick, and the opportunity to earn a fair wage. But lately, those fundamental pillars of a good life have become increasingly difficult to attain.

The Current Representation Gap

For the past decade, District 157 has been represented by politicians who treat the office as a lifelong entitlement rather than a sacred public trust. While the incumbent and my Republican opponent boast about their long tenures as local political insiders, I am hearing a very different story from the voters on the ground.

When I speak with farmers at the Glennville Sweet Onion Festival, they aren’t talking about partisan talking points; they are talking about crushing input costs, estate taxes that threaten to dismantle their family farms, and aggressive federal regulations. When I speak with seniors in Reidsville, they are terrified by the skyrocketing cost of property taxes and utility bills, which are threatening to price them out of the homes they have lived in for thirty years.

Our current representation has failed to forcefully address these localized crises. We do not need a representative who simply manages the slow decline of our rural counties while voting in lockstep with Atlanta party bosses. We need a representative who will aggressively champion rural affordability, agricultural protection, and local infrastructure investment.

My campaign for Georgia House District 157 is built entirely around the immediate, tangible needs of our four counties. If elected, I will focus relentlessly on three core pillars:

The state government is currently sitting on a massive budget surplus while working families are struggling to afford groceries and gasoline. This is unacceptable. I will vote to aggressively accelerate state income tax cuts, double the state homestead exemption to provide massive property tax relief, and rein in the arbitrary utility fee increases that are squeezing our fixed-income seniors.

2. Protecting Our Farmers and Agriculture

Our farmers are the absolute lifeblood of District 157. I will fight to make all agricultural input exemptions permanent, ensuring that state-level sales taxes do not cripple the profit margins of our local growers. I will fiercely defend our local water rights from urban overreach and ensure that the Future Farmers of America (FFA) and 4-H programs in our local high schools receive the robust state funding they deserve.

Furthermore, as a veteran, I know the importance of robust community support networks, and I will ensure that our local law enforcement, EMS, and fire departments have the state funding required to do their jobs safely.
