Uniting for Rural Georgia: Micah King at the 2026 Georgia Democrats State Convention

This past weekend, over 1,000 Georgia Democrats convened in Savannah to strategize for the pivotal November 2026 elections. The energy at the Savannah Convention Center was palpable as advocates, candidates, and voters from every corner of the state united around a shared vision for Georgia’s future. You can read more about the convention’s broader impact in this WABE report and on the official Georgia Democrats 2026 Convention page.

For our campaign in House District 157, this convention was a crucial opportunity to ensure that the voices of Southeast Georgiaβ€”specifically Tattnall, Appling, Jeff Davis, and Evans countiesβ€”were heard loud and clear.

Elevating Rural Voices

One of the most important sessions of the weekend was the Georgia Democratic Rural Council State Committee meeting. During this session, we discussed the unique challenges and opportunities facing rural communities. Our platform in District 157 centers on proactive solutions, and this meeting was a chance to align our local strategies with statewide initiatives.

We must prioritize rural healthcare access, ensuring that families aren’t driving hours for basic care or emergency services. We also discussed the rising input costs affecting our local agriculture industry. Farming is the backbone of our local economy, and our state policies need to reflect that reality, providing robust support for our farmers.

Connecting with State Leaders

Throughout the weekend, I had the privilege of meeting with several incredible leaders, candidates, and advocates who are fighting for a better Georgia.

We discussed the urgent need to fully fund our rural schools and support our educators, and I had great strategy sessions with numerous local county chairs and legislative advocates.

These connections are vital. By building a strong coalition of leaders who understand the nuances of both urban and rural districts, we can craft legislation that benefits all Georgians, not just a select few.

The momentum from Savannah is incredible, but the real work continues on the ground in District 157. Let’s keep moving forward!
